A Personal Location Beacon (PLB) is a distress radio beacon used to alert search and rescue services and allow them to quickly locate you in the event of an emergency, on land or sea. Unlike the aviation ELTs beacons or marine EPIRBs, the PLB includes the same technology (high transmission power, long battery life, high output transmission power (5 W or more) but with a lower purchase price. The PLB  is personal safety device that you can use anywhere around the world. Owning an active PLB does not involve the payment of any annual fee.
