The battery replacement is essential to ensure that your Personal Locator Beacon (PLB) is always ready to operate correctly in an emergency. Each PLB has a lifespan defined by the manufacturer: once this limit is reached, the battery can no longer guarantee full performance, even if the device has never been activated or was used only briefly.
Our certified service center (BRC) performs battery replacement on all ACR Electronics and Ocean Signal models, using only original spare parts and following the manufacturers’ official procedures. The service is also available for discontinued PLB models, depending on component availability. For older units (especially those built before 2005), we recommend contacting us in advance to evaluate whether replacement or purchasing a new model is more convenient.
The service includes the replacement of the PLB battery, a general inspection of the unit, and the issuance of an official work report listing all operations carried out and their results.
The battery replacement should be performed as follows:
• ACR Electronics PLB: every 5 years
• Ocean Signal PLB: every 7 years
• After any activation of the PLB, even if only partial or accidental.
For discontinued or very old PLBs, we recommend contacting us in advance to evaluate whether a replacement or a new purchase is more suitable.
Each battery replacement follows manufacturer protocols and includes:
• removal of the used battery and installation of a new original one;
• functional testing to verify proper operation;
• visual inspection of the device (case, antenna, activators);
• resealing and closure of the unit in compliance with technical specifications;
• issue of an official work report summarizing all checks performed.
This document can be useful for inspections or technical verifications, even if not required by law.

We arrange pickup by courier (for shipments from Italy only). Please pack the device properly before shipment.
The PLB is processed in our authorized technical center. Any issues or discrepancies compared to the quotation will be promptly communicated. For discontinued or older models, we will assess in advance the feasibility of the service and inform you of any limitations or specific conditions.
Once the service is complete and payment confirmed, the PLB is shipped back by courier. On request, a priority processing service is available to reduce downtime.
We are also available for the evaluation of obsolete devices or units registered abroad.
